Our History

Introduction of the background research

ALGOA PROGRESS is a “New Business from Research Ideas” (TUTLI) project funded by Business Finland and the European Regional Development Fund. The project aims to explore the commercial potential of an algorithm that can predict the progression of osteoarthritis. The project seeks to lay both technological and commercial foundations for a novel technology that allows individualized treatment planning for people with, e.g. osteoarthritis. The objective of this type of treatment planning would be to prevent osteoarthritis or to slow down its progression.

Our Mission

Algoa Progress is an innovative decision-support tool for personalized treatment planning of osteoarthritis. The AI-driven solution is based on almost 20 years of research by world leading scientists in the field of osteoarthritis. It is a novel approach combining information from clinical imaging and personal risk factors in a patient specific computational model of the knee joint.

Algoa Progress predicts and quantifies the patient's OA risk evolution and provides a visual demonstration of the prediction. In addition to prediction of the progression of osteoarthritis, it is the world’s first solution to simulate and visualize the effects of treatment interventions. This enables personalized treatment planning and help medical experts in their decision-making to provide the most effective prevention strategies.
